We unofficially formed our society in 2007. It all started out with my husband and I getting together with some of our friends. We got to talking about places we knew of in Northern Maine that were rumored to be haunted. One of the places that was mentioned was the Nike Site up near Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, ME. The Aroostook Paranormal Investigation Society was officially created in its current inception June 2009 when Karralena Castaway came on board as the Vice President/co founder and we received our 501(c) status as a non profit community support/social club. We have a Board of Directors and can retain a maximum of 20 members in addition to the 5 BOD positions. Our mission is to investigate & educate on paranormal phenomena in public and client settings; there is no charge for our investigative services, but a travel donation is appreciated. T.A.P.I.S. covers from Fort Kent to Houlton with its primary focus being the immediate area from Easton to Mars Hill and the towns in between.

Below is the first pre -2009 account of the original groups experiences which influenced the creation of the organization as it appears at this time. * Please note: Recent investigations can be found in the current newsletter which has been updated( Spring 2012).

Now, there are a lot of different stories about the place, but the one we all heard while growing up was the following:

The Nike Site is a place where the military dumped their toxic waste back in the1970's. As a result, the land there became polluted and the military had to eventually close that piece of property off from the public. Finally in the late 1980's to the early 1990's, the place was closed off for good.However, there were a group of high school kids from Limestone and Caribou who decided that the abandoned and condemned military site would be the best place to have a party, considering the fact that it was isolated and no one went there.

Now, they say that there were 18 kids there, all having a blast drinking and playing music, dancing around and just hanging out. At around midnight, they all started to hear noises coming from the bushes and the abandoned silo behind them. They all swore that when they looked, all they saw were little red beady eyes staring back at them from the darkness. They also swore that they saw several little black gremlin-type creatures scurrying around them.

They say that the reason the spot is called the "Nike Site", is because all the kids ran from there, except for one. When his friends went back to the place to look for him, all they found was one of his Nike sneakers lying near the silo, covered in blood and dirt. The boy was never found.

This story prompted us to go on a little side trip on the way to drop two of our friends back home. We ended up going to the abandoned site, well, at least everyone else did. ( I stayed home because I'm a sensitive and that type of energy will knock me out!) So, meanwhile, my husband, Dustin and Patrick are driving up the road leading away from one of the abandoned buildings, planning on coming home. As they were getting close to the end of the road, Dustin and Robert both threw their hands up and yelled " Look out!" to Patrick. Well, Patrick slams on the brakes and asks them what's wrong. "You didn't see him?" they both asked him at the same time. He said no, he didn't see anyone.

By the time the boys got back to our place, Dustin & Robert were pale and had that glazed look on their faces and Patrick was looking confused. When I asked them what was wrong, they told me that Patrick had run over an old man! Patrick swore up and down that he didn't see anyone, but Robert & Dustin swore they felt the man pass right through them as Patrick ran over him. Guess we'll never know, considering it never happened again.

Our VP's house is haunted! The first day she moved in there, a force would not let me in! I had to try again after 3 other people went in & then I was able to enter.There was anothe rincident. I went to pick her up to run errands and when I went in I didn't see anyone. I called out, "I'm here! Hello?" and I heard her call out,"Up here!". When I went upstairs, however, there was no one there! I feel safe in saying that she has paranormal activity and some residual hauntings! If anything like this has happened to you,let us know! Current investigation involves a family haunting involving Shadow figures, disembodied voices, objects moving and flying off the walls and intelligent interaction with spirits. That is all the information we can disclose at this point in time .
